The Message That Simply Says “I am here”

“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”Matthew 28:20

No advice. No questions. No request for an update. Only a few words, or fewer.

The phone lights up. The message does not ask anything of you. It only says that someone is there.

Jesus often said, in one way or another, “I am with you.” That was already the gift. He did not always explain. He did not always fix the problem first. He made himself present.

A message that says “I am here” does not try to solve the day. It only refuses to leave the other person alone. In a long illness, a hard night, or a quiet fear, that can be enough.

You do not have to write more. You do not have to wait for the perfect sentence.

At Mass we hear the same promise. Christ does not send us out with a list of answers. He gives his presence, and then he stays. We can do a small version of that for one another.

The knowledge that someone can still be reached is already a quiet mercy.
