Most of us meet angels already decorated. A fat child with a bow. A blonde woman on a card. A crystal that promises protection if you buy the stand. The Church has never authorised any of that.
She has authorised something quieter. God made a world of spirits as well as a world of stone. Some kept faith and some did not. The faithful ones are not a mood. They are creatures. They have intellect and will. They do not have bodies. They stand.
This little book is not a field guide to the invisible. It walks through what the Church actually teaches: why we may speak only three names aloud, why Raphael was willing to look like staff on Tobias’s road, why the Preface of the Mass is already crowded, why a cave in Apulia and a castle over the Tiber still belong to Michael, and why a short prayer after the blessing is enough. Legend is named as legend. The shop is named as a shop.
Read it if the cards have made you shy of the doctrine. Read it if you already greet your guardian and have never been told why the Church will not baptise every old list of names. The wings can wait. The standing cannot.
A Silent Homilies booklet. Written to be read in one or two sittings.
