Most Catholics have seen an archbishop wearing a narrow white band over his chasuble. Few know what it is, or that its wool is connected with St Agnes and two lambs blessed in Rome each January.


This Little Treasure follows that wool from a young Roman martyr to the shoulders of a Metropolitan Archbishop, and asks what the pallium is really for: not promotion, but communion with Peter and the work of a shepherd.
