The Window That Does Not Open

“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes.”John 3:8

The window shows the outside world: sky, trees, a piece of car park. But it does not open. No air comes through. The heat or the cold is decided somewhere else.

Jesus spoke of the Spirit as wind, free and not under our control. He also lived inside ordinary buildings and human rules. He knew rooms that could not give him everything he loved. He still entered them.

A window that does not open is still a window. It lets you see. It does not let you pass through. That difference matters. Sight is not the same as freedom.

You do not have to hate the glass. You also do not have to pretend that the view is the same as going outside.

Look through it when you need to remember that a larger world is still there. Then turn back to the room that needs you.

At Mass we also look beyond the walls, and then we stay where we are. Prayer lifts the heart toward God. The people beside us still need our presence. Christ is not only in the open air. He is in the sealed room too.

If you are the one who cannot leave, the world outside has not disappeared. If you are the one who can walk out later, remember the person who cannot.

The window is a small mercy. The room is still the place of love.
